It’s been different lately. Working from home.
5/4/2020
It seems like it was so long ago when my average workday consisted mostly of an intricate two step dance between driving from client to client and sitting with said clients in their homes or Starbucks. It was virtually all face-to-face. Fast forward to now and it’s been two months straight now where I haven’t seen a single client in person. The number of engagements I have with people, who want insurance have gone down some, but I am still working with people quite a bit on almost a daily basis. It’s now done without shaking the hands and getting to know each other within the same four walls. What a shift. It takes some getting used to.
Pro’s:
- No risk of exposing each other to this nasty virus
- Clients do not have to schedule time during the work ours and do whatever they do to get ready to host a stranger in their home
- I can serve more people that way as the dead time of transferring between clients is eliminated
- Clients can get help at a time that is convenient to them virtually any time of the day
Cons:
- Not much of quality time with people who never met me before. So the comfort zone and that special connection that’s built while sitting face-to-face is just not there as much.
- I cannot explain things as thoroughly using all of the materials I can show in person. Clients might miss some information and not understanding everything as well as they would if we met in home.
- Not everyone owns a computer or knows how to navigate around a smartphone or email. And that’s a requirement to put insurance place remotely. So, in some cases we must involve clients’ kids or grandkids.
And one more casualty of this massive rearrangement of my professional life: haircut. Yep, my wife took a clipper to my scalp. That is what happens when hair salons are closed, and you start looking like Chewbacca of Star Wars. Hence, I am not posting a picture of me dutifully sitting in front of a computer pretending to be working hard. In about a month, may be! Stay tuned.
Be well. Let me know if I can help.
